November 2008 - Wessex Slide Competition

The competition was held at Dorchester Camera Club where ten other camera clubs each showed 8 images. Each was judged and given an invidual score.  These were then totalled up for the final overall score per Club. Dorchester won with 70 points with Beaminster and Bridport sharing second position with 67 points.

May 2008 - Lottery Grant update

The working party have now agreed with the Committee on exactly which projector and associated equipment will be purchased from our Lottery Grant.   All equipment will be purchased and operational before the start of the new Club season in September 2008.

So far the Canon Scanner and Elements 6 has been purchased.  But the working party are waiting a little longer prior to purchasing the Projector and Laptop to ensure that they achieve the best possible price and value for money in this fast moving market.

February 2008  -  DPIC

For the first time the Club entered the WCPF annual Digital  competition.  Having selected our 25 digital images we went along in high expectation.  With this area of photography expanding fast we found ourselves in the company of 43 other Clubs, each showing 25 images - 1075 for the judges to mark and us to view.

The day moved swiftly along with the 3 judges making more or less instant decisions on images as they went up on the screen.  Needless to say there were some inconsistencies in the scores, but then who would want to be a judge trying to get it right (you can never please all of the people all of the time)?  At the end of the first round we were up near the top of the results list, then it was a slippery slope down and a short revival towards the end of the day.

Overall we finished 22nd out of the 43 Clubs, so for a small Club not a bad result.  Our individual champion photographer of the day was Marjorie Aird with her Mysterious Visitors getting a score of 13 (out of a possible 15).  So well done Marjorie!

Friday January 18th - A Glass Workshop

This was held in the Beaminster Museum where we set up two areas for displays of some wonderful glass ornaments bought along by Club Members.  Everyone was keen to have-a-go and joined in the fun.  Soon folks were holding lights at odd angles to achieve special effects and thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Glass is not an easy thing to take good images of so we all learnt a great deal and hope to show our results at future Club competitions.

This was the first workshop held this year and it is hoped that it will be followed by others during the year.  Watch this space for more info.........
