Press Release from the Beaminster & District Camera Club

- Released April 10th 2008

SMILE  PLEASE!

Beaminster & District Camera Club have plenty to smile about as they have just received funds from the  ‘Awards for All’, the National Lottery scheme, towards the cost of buying a new, state of the art, digital projector.

Over the past decade digital photography has really come of age and is now the media of choice of most newcomers to the art. Many traditional photographers are also getting in to the digital age and are leaving behind their dark rooms, with trays of solutions and hours of work to achieve their results.  They can also cease having to use expensive slide or film media in their cameras.  Digital photography means, that having invested in your camera, you can take an unlimited number of images and then return home to download them to your computer and produce your finished masterpiece quickly and easily.

Up until now Club competitions have meant producing work using either slide or print methods.  Whilst they won’t be giving up entirely on these methods with the addition of the digital projector Beaminster will now be able to show their member’s digital images, beautifully illuminated and projected on to a large screen.  “It moves us in to the new era” said their Chairman, Murray Rose.  “This will mean we will not only be able to hold Club competitions for digital images, but also be able to undertake tutorials and lectures on how to use and enjoy the bespoke software that allows us to enhance and produce beautiful digital images”.

Beaminster Camera Club always have a policy of welcoming visitors to their Club nights and when they are putting on special digital evenings they will ensure that the local residents are advised of the dates through the Club noticeboard in Yarn Barton, Beaminster, or via their web site www.beaminstercameraclub.co.uk .  So this funding will enable any interested person, whether a Club member or not, to benefit directly from the ‘Awards for All’ scheme.

It is their aim to increase their membership in 2008/9 and having the digital projector and associated equipment, will mean that they are seen as being an up to date, progressive Club, which both new photographers and the more experienced feel happy to come along and join.

“We feel enormously fortunate to have been granted this funding from the National Lottery and that by awarding this to us they are recognising the value of supporting local Clubs in rural areas such as Beaminster. You could say having the new digital projector will be ‘developing’ our Club, and our skills, in more sense than one” concluded Murray.

Notes – Beaminster & District Camera Club meet fortnightly from September through to early May.  From September 2008 Club meetings will be held in Beaminster Museum on alternate Tuesday evenings.
